Incorporating Local History into the Primary Curriculum

Launch Event

Incorporating local history into the curriculum provides children with the opportunity to discover how their local area has been shaped over time by those who lived before them, and how their community has contributed to the history of Britain and the wider world.

This session will support you with:

  • Understanding why local history is important and how it can support children with developing their substantive and disciplinary knowledge in history.
  • Making links between local, national and global contexts by weaving local history into existing history units.
  • Networking with colleagues in PKC schools to share ideas and expertise.
  • Developing well-planned local studies and that can be taught in your school.
  • Planning for enrichment opportunities available on your doorstep.
