This session will focus on how we can develop disciplinary knowledge through a knowledge-rich primary curriculum. We will look at how we can ensure that children build a deep understanding of the discipline of history, including how historians study the past and construct accounts. We will delve into the disciplinary concepts of causation, consequence, similarities & differences, continuity & change, and historical significance, and examine the role of historical interpretation and the use of sources & evidence. Using practical examples from the Knowledge Schools Trust Primaries, we will look at how a well-sequenced curriculum can build disciplinary knowledge from Early Years to Year 6.
