Why Study Shakespeare?
Shakespeare is widely regarded as one of the greatest playwrights and poets in the English language. His works has had a profound impact on literature and drama, influencing countless writers and artists over the centuries. Many phrases and expressions we use today originated in his works. Despite nearly four centuries passing since Shakespeare last put pen to paper, his plays continue to transcend time, captivating and enchanting audiences to this day. Introducing the works of William Shakespeare into your curriculum is a transformative endeavour, providing a strong foundation for both secondary and lifelong learning.
What Will Your Pupils Study?
Young learners will explore timeless themes like friendship, bravery, and imagination through age-appropriate adaptations of Shakespearean stories.
Each year, pupils will delve into a different Shakespearean play. By the end of their primary schooling, they will have experienced over seven plays, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Twelfth Night, Richard III, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. These plays encompass a rich variety of comedies, tragedies, and histories. The eloquent language, intricate plots, and distant settings of these works stimulate fresh perspectives in children. Through storytelling, drama, physical experiences, and short clips, our goal is to ignite a genuine passion for all things Shakespeare.
What Is Included?
We provide our partner schools with comprehensive lesson plans, covering Reception through to Year 6. Each unit spans ten lessons, enabling the entire school to immerse in a ‘Shakespearean Fortnight.’ Our lesson plans offer invaluable guidance in making Shakespeare’s profound legacy accessible and engaging for students, ensuring that the enduring contributions of the Bard continue to shape the minds of future generations.
