Hazel Leys Academy

Our recent experience with the PKC curriculum for History, Geography, Science, and Art over the past year has been nothing short of transformative.

Our commitment to selecting a curriculum developed by experts in their respective fields has been affirmed by our latest Ofsted inspection in October 2023.

The inspection revealed our curriculum’s strength in being both professional and sequential, grounded in educational research, and designed by subject specialists. This approach ensures that our pupils will progressively acquire and retain more knowledge over time. During the inspection, we were particularly impressed with the in-depth analysis of our curriculum, especially in Geography. Our subject leader demonstrated knowledge and passion, effectively showcasing how the PKC curriculum fosters continuity and advancement from one year to the next.

Furthermore, the Ofsted inspector noted the curriculum’s exceptional integration starting from the early years.

‘In all subjects, the school has identified the most important knowledge that pupils need to know. This is broken down into smaller steps that pupils learn in a logical order. These improvements that the school has made have helped to ensure that pupils know and remember more over time’.

Our staff have greatly benefited from the continuous professional development (CPD) and collaboration opportunities provided by the PKC curriculum. They report a significant impact on their teaching practices, enhancing their ability to deliver more effective and engaging lessons.

We are immensely proud of our curriculum and deeply appreciative of the collaboration, support and inspiration provided by the PKC team which have also supported the creation and development of our English curriculum.

This curriculum aligns perfectly with our vision of ‘Ignite, Aspire and Achieve’, extending beyond the national curriculum to include the most effective teaching and learning methods known.
