Understanding the Primary History Curriculum: Effective Curriculum Design (ON DEMAND)
This online session will explore the potential of curriculum design to transform our children’s experiences of history by enabling them to develop substantive and disciplinary knowledge over time. We will reflect upon curriculum content choices, sequencing and how to make meaningful links to the wider curriculum.
Children’s historical knowledge of people and societies of the past plays a vital role in understanding current world events and the challenges society faces today. Throughout their primary years, the history curriculum must deliver carefully chosen, well-sequenced content to support schema building and develop foundational understanding for future learning. This session will offer insight into primary history curriculum design, explanations of curriculum decisions and practical advice for teachers and school leaders.
