Understanding the Primary Geography Curriculum: Effective Curriculum Design (ON DEMAND)
This online session will explore the potential of curriculum design to transform our children’s experiences of geography enabling them to connect to and understand the world around them. We will reflect upon curriculum content choices, sequencing and how to make meaningful links to the wider curriculum.
Children’s geographical understanding is a vital part of their developing sense of identity. Throughout their primary years, the geography curriculum must deliver carefully chosen, well sequenced content to support schema building and develop foundational understanding for future learning.
We will consider questions such as:
- How do we develop a clear intent for our geography curriculum?
- How do we choose which places our children will learn about?
- How does curriculum design support children to learn and remember more over time?
- How can we assess the impact of our geography curriculum?
- How can we ensure our geography curriculum builds on and contributes to knowledge in other subject areas?
- How can our geography curriculum help children to develop their own sense of identity?
