We will discuss what we mean by a knowledge-rich curriculum, principles of effective curriculum design and how to purposely bring the curriculum to life in the primary classroom. We will look at examples of planning, lesson structures and outcomes across the curriculum and primary phase.
We will explore the foundation subjects, the identity of each discipline and will think about how we can continue to develop our subject knowledge as we progress through our ECT years. Our session will support ECTs to understand the different components of the primary curriculum and how we create a narrative, a story of the world, for our pupils as they work through their primary education.
We will consider questions such as:
- What is a knowledge-rich curriculum?
- What does a well-sequenced curriculum in the foundation subjects look like?
- Why is lesson structure important?
- How can we ensure our curriculum meets the needs of all of the children?
- What is our curriculum story?
