Local History in Bedford and Central Bedfordshire
The Primary Knowledge Curriculum team are pleased to be partnering with the Bedford Curriculum Hub to provide a day to support schools in Bedford and Central Bedfordshire with embedding rich local history into their existing primary curriculum.
Incorporating local history into the curriculum provides children with the opportunity to discover how their local area has been shaped over time by those who lived before them, and how their community has contributed to the history of Britain and the wider world.
This day will support you with:
- Understanding why local history is important and how it can support children with developing their substantive and disciplinary knowledge in history.
- Making links between local, national and global contexts by weaving local history into existing history units.
- Networking with colleagues in local schools to share ideas and expertise.
- Developing well-planned local studies and that can be taught in your school.
- Planning for enrichment opportunities available on your doorstep.
- Discovering more about the rich history of Bedford and the surrounding areas!
The day with include presentations from a history specialist, a tour of the museum, and a collaborative curriculum planning workshop to ensure all delegates leave with an actionable plan of how they will incorporate local history into their schools’ curriculum.
Please can all delegates bring their curriculum maps/documents, and if possible, laptops/devices for the workshop element of the day.
