The Primary Knowledge Curriculum team are pleased to be partnering with the Bedford Curriculum Hub to provide a day to support schools in Bedford and Central Bedfordshire with embedding engaging local geography into their existing primary curriculum.
Incorporating local geography into the curriculum stimulates children’s curiosity in their surroundings and helps them to develop a sense of identity and belonging. Local geography helps children to understand the physical and human processes which shape places and how people interact with the environment around them.
This day will support you with:
- Understanding why local geography is important and how it can support children with developing their substantive and disciplinary knowledge.
- Planning for local fieldwork that is embedded in units of work that support understanding of how geographers work
- Networking with colleagues in local schools to share ideas and expertise.
- Developing well-planned local studies and that can be taught in your school.
- Planning for enrichment opportunities available on your doorstep.
- Discovering more about the geography of Bedford and the surrounding areas!
The day with include presentations from a primary geography curriculum specialist, a tour of the museum, and a collaborative curriculum planning workshop to ensure all delegates leave with an actionable plan of how they will incorporate local geography into their schools’ curriculum.
Please can all delegates bring their curriculum maps/documents, and if possible, laptops/devices for the workshop element of the day.
