This online course will develop participant’s understanding of the primary music curriculum. We will explore how the PKC Music Curriculum is structured, sequenced and planned. We will think about how children develop musical knowledge through singing, listening, composing and performing, learning more and remembering more over time. We will reflect upon how pupils can build procedural and technical skills which allow them to begin to realise and develop their own expressive intentions through music.
This course will consider:
- How active making music and listening are central to teaching music at primary level
- The diverse range of music which can be included in the primary curriculum
- How understanding the elements of music can guide listening, composition and performance
- How can we explore different musical concepts and skills in music and how these build in the primary years
- How to teach notation
- How the curriculum can intersect with other subjects at primary level
- How we can support other teachers to deliver high quality music lessons
- How we can assess pupil progress in music
- How we can monitor the curriculum and assess impact
This course is for curriculum leaders, Music subject leaders and teachers and will reflect upon the role that music plays in the Ofsted inspection framework.
