Leading Art (Autumn Term 24/25) – ON DEMAND

This online programme will explore effective practice in primary art, showing how introducing pupils to the works of great artists and designers can inspire them in their own creative work. It will provide subject leaders with the tools they need to have a positive impact within their own school. 

The course will include: 

  • Why we teach art and why it is important
  • What is ‘knowledge’ in art?
  • How to explore different concepts, skills and processes in art 
  • Progression of knowledge and skills during the primary years
  • Diversity in the curriculum
  • Effective lesson structure and the importance of vocabulary
  • Effective teaching in art and the importance of looking, talk and demonstration
  • Exploring techniques and materials
  • Choosing the right resources and use of sketchbooks
  • Tools for assessment

This course is for curriculum leaders, Art subject leaders and teachers and will reflect upon the role that art plays in the Ofsted inspection framework. 

 

The session will be recorded, and videos will be made available for participants.
