Teaching ‘Understanding the World’ in the Early Years (Spring Term 24/25)
This online CPD session will explore the practical application of the PKC Early Years units for Understanding the World and will consider how we can bring them to life in our Early Years settings. We will discuss the sequencing of our PKC units and how knowledge and skills build over time. We will think about vocabulary, how we explicitly teach this and how we can provide opportunities for children to use new vocabulary in context. We will reflect upon how we can skilfully combine teaching opportunities with play and bring our curriculum to life for the children in Early Years.
We will explore questions such as:
- What does a knowledge-rich early years curriculum look like?
- How are the PKC EYFS materials structured?
- How do I translate PKC into my early years setting?
- How do I teach ambitious vocabulary in a meaningful way?
- How do I develop a curriculum that includes and develops children’s interests?
Suitable for: Early years teachers and leaders
