Effective Teaching in Music (Spring Term 24/25)
This online course will develop participant’s understanding of effective teaching of primary music. We will explore how the PKC Music Curriculum is structured, sequenced and planned and how this promotes effective teaching in music. We will think about how children develop musical knowledge through singing, listening, composing and performing, learning more and remembering more over time. We will reflect upon how pupils can build procedural and technical skills which allow them to begin to realise and develop their own expressive intentions through music.
This course will consider:
- How active making music and listening are central to teaching music at primary level
- How understanding the elements of music can guide listening, composition and performance
- How can we explore different musical concepts and skills in music and how these build in the primary years
- How to teach singing and notation
- Classroom management in the music classroom
- How we can assess pupil progress in music, monitor the curriculum and assess impact
Suitable for:
This course is for curriculum leaders, music subject leaders and teachers and will reflect upon the role that music plays in the Ofsted inspection framework.
