Curriculum Leadership Programme for the Early Years

This online programme will delve into how a knowledge-rich early years curriculum can build firm foundations for future education. Exploring areas such as teaching vocabulary, weaving knowledge into play and practical ideas for planning a robust Reception curriculum, this session will help teachers and senior leaders reflect upon how knowledge in the Early Years can help children to flourish. We will have a particular focus on Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design and will consider the role of knowledge in these specific areas of the Early Years curriculum. We will look at the importance of a whole school curriculum approach, ensuring that curriculum content builds from EYFS into KS1 and beyond.

We will consider questions such as:
• What does a knowledge approach to an Early Years curriculum look like?
• How do we combine teacher led content with child-initiated learning?
• What is the ‘word gap’ and why does it matter in Early Years?
• What impact does a knowledge rich EYFS curriculum have on early language?
• How can our curriculum prepare children to meet the ELGs for Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design?
• How can we create strong curriculum links between EYFS and KS1?

This programme includes access to online training videos, three live sessions across the year and suggested gap tasks. All sessions will be recorded and available for participants.

It is essential that delegates have completed the pre-recorded training before each live session.
