Nursery

What are the aims of the Nursery curriculum?

The aim of the nursery curriculum materials is to provide children with an interesting, engaging, carefully structured introduction to ‘Understanding the World’. We believe every child deserves the best start in life and this underpins our goal to set children up with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to make progress in their education.

Our nursery curriculum will strengthen children’s understanding of the world while enriching and expanding their vocabulary to support communication. The curriculum materials support teachers whilst allowing them vital flexibility to use their own knowledge and expertise to enhance the provision in their settings and meet their children’s needs.

What can teachers expect from our Nursery curriculum?

Through the PKC, children are provided with the foundational knowledge to build upon as they progress through the curriculum.

The PKC nursery curriculum units include:

  • All about me
  • Journeys
  • Dinosaurs
  • Growing and changing
  • Animals and their babies
  • Heroes and adventures

Each plan includes two teacher led sessions and a suggested adult led task per week for five weeks. Suggested activities, continuous provision, ideas for play opportunities and supporting texts are also included. Key vocabulary is highlighted allowing teachers to explicitly teach new words and provide a variety of opportunities to use newly learned words.

Teaching resources for Nursery

We equip our partner schools with the necessary resources to effectively teach the PKC Nursery curriculum. Resources include lesson plans, curriculum maps and unit rationales.

Alongside the above resources, we provide every PKC Nursery teacher with:

  • Knowledge organisers for every unit
  • Access to CPD: ‘A Knowledge Rich Curriculum in Practice’
